About Groot
🐾 Meet Groot 💙
6 Years Old • Cane Corso • Neutered • Approximately 171 lb
Groot is a truly massive presence with an equally memorable story. He came into FOUND Rescue’s care in April 2025 and has been receiving ongoing support while we work to better understand and manage his mobility concerns.
At roughly 171 lb, Groot’s size means that keeping him comfortable, mobile, and at a healthy weight is especially important. He has experienced intermittent pain and lameness involving his right hind leg, and although extensive assessment has ruled out some major concerns such as hip dysplasia, the exact cause of his discomfort has not been definitively identified.
For now, Groot remains on Medical Hold while we continue focusing on his comfort, mobility, weight management, and overall quality of life.
Groot is not currently available for adoption, but he remains very much part of the FOUND family while we determine what his long-term care needs will look like. 💙
Best Fit Home
If Groot becomes available for adoption in the future, his ideal home will need to be prepared for the realities of living with a giant-breed dog with potential ongoing mobility needs.
A suitable home should be comfortable managing a very large dog, committed to maintaining a healthy body condition, and willing to continue any veterinary follow-up, rehabilitation, joint support, or activity modifications recommended for him.
His future placement will need to be based on his medical progress and what we determine is safest and most comfortable for Groot long term.

Medical Hold — Ongoing Mobility Evaluation
Groot has a history of intermittent right hind-limb lameness and discomfort, particularly with extension of the right hip/leg.
Sedated X-rays of his hips and knees did not show evidence of hip dysplasia. Mild inflammatory changes were identified around the right stifle (knee), with possible causes including a cruciate ligament strain/injury or a soft-tissue injury involving the hip flexor region. No definitive underlying cause has been identified to date.
His care has previously included pain/anti-inflammatory medication, weight management, joint support, and physiotherapy. His current treatment plan may change as his condition is reassessed.
FOUND Rescue continues to monitor Groot’s comfort, mobility, and long-term care needs.
